Because, whilst we understand it can be tough to face defeat – not doing so can make you look… Well… Pretty silly. To put it nicely!
We get it – it feels “meh” when you don’t “win”. However, it’s through these moments that we improve our performance for the next time round; failure is an essential component for success!
Here are our top tips for how to accept and grow from any defeat you face.
Firstly? You need to accept how you feel. Yes, defeat is never going to be pleasant. It tastes like lemons. Really bitter ones. But, if you accept that this is a normal emotion that everyone feels, it helps.
Swallow your pride and congratulate the winner. Be the bigger person. You’ll feel good for it, we promise.
Reflect. Let this be a lesson for how you’ll do something better next time. Why didn’t you win? Did you lose the deal as your presentation game needed work? Sign up for an online class. Don’t fester in those feelings – turn this into a positive!
Don’t play the blame game. Ever. Take responsibility for your own actions and don’t blame others for the loss!
Ask for guidance. Learning-agility is one of the most sought-after skills amongst businesses today. Adopting a learning mindset is key – be a student in your defeat and ask for feedback from someone wiser!
Be a glass-half-full kind of person. Why? Because it just feels GOOD to be positive. Get your mind on the right track – think optimistic thoughts and you’ll see the world differently.
Keep your cool. Don’t rant. Tantrum. Call “fake-news”. It’s embarrassing and immature!
Accepting defeat gracefully will make you feel good! There is NO better learning than facing adversity.
